'(A Spiritual Community) needs to have very deep roots - roots in the sky'
Going for Refuge requires the activation of our strongest and deepest emotions. If we are to make any progress at all in transforming ourselves, we have to transform our emotional life. As Sangharakshita once famously said, “the central problem for most people in the spiritual life is to find emotional equivalents to intellectual understanding”. To transform the depths we need to activate faith and imagination, and open fully to ‘the mythic context’ with its symbols, images, colours and stories. In many ways the Mythic Context retreat is ‘the retreat that makes sense of all the other retreats’ that you will be attending. The Mythic Context is not a study retreat, it’s a retreat in which we create the space to open up to the central myth of the Order: the Going for Refuge of all beings. The main practice of this retreat is The Going for Refuge and Prostration practice.
We ask that you attend at least one other Ordination training retreat before attending this retreat.
If you intend to come on this retreat, consider extending your stay by arriving early for the Ordination Training Weekend. You can book a place on the weekend here:
