On these weekends for men who have asked for ordination we explore the essential elements of the Dharma life through meditation, ritual, talks and discussion. Ordination Training Weekends are an excellent opportunity to meet other men from all over the UK and further afield who have asked to join the Triratna Buddhist Order.
On this particular retreat we will be exploring the Garava Sutta of the Pali Canon, the sutta in which the Buddha, immediately after his Enlightenment, recognises the essential need for 'garava' in our lives.
The word 'garava' has a number of meanings, including wonder and delight, as well as admiration for those who are worthy of reverence. It also means salutation, worship and other acts expressive of positive emotion. In a recent article, Sangharakshita said that 'to live without looking up to anyone represents an impoverishment of one’s emotional life and, indeed, an impairment of one’s very humanity.'
We will be studying and discussing the sutta, meditating and performing puja. There will also be a series of talks from men who have recently returned from being ordained at Guhyaloka.
It promises to be a rich and inspiring weekend.
