Urgyen Sangharakshita once said that the chanting of the Pali Tiratana Vandana – the Salutation to the Three Jewels – is the morning puja in the Triratna Community. At Padmaloka – as well as at other centres – the vandana is chanted every morning before meditation.
The origins of the vandana are found in the earliest Buddhist texts, where the Buddha teaches the first verses of each vandana as a meditation on the qualities of the Buddha, Dhamma and Sangha. In one place he says that meditation on the qualities found in the vandana develops serene faith and leads to the attainment of ‘The Mirror of Truth’ through which one can see clearly the attainments of others.
On this retreat, we will be studying the vandana, chanting the vandana and meditating on the vandana, developing serene faith, perhaps ‘The Mirror of Truth’.
The retreat starts with dinner on the first day at 6:30pm and finishes on the final day at 10.00am.
This retreat is directly followed by the Spring Ordination Training weekend. Follow this link to book onto the weekend: http://bit.ly/SpringOTW
