Beauty is a central aspect of Bhante’s perspective on the Dharma. He regarded it as one of the keys to translating the Dharma into Western culture and gave it continual emphasis in his writing, teaching, and poetry, as well as in the way he lived his own life.
As early as the 1950s he was writing a series of essays later published as The Religion of Art, while beauty continued to be the central theme in one of his last written pieces: ‘Green Tara and the fourth laksana’.
In order to deepen one’s Going for Refuge it is vital to be able to appreciate the true beauty of the Three Jewels. Therefore, on this retreat, we will be delving into Bhante’s teachings on the theme and arousing our ‘Eros’ – our passionate love and energy – for the Dharma Life. Padmavajra will guide us in that exploration with a series of talks.
