Sub30s: Living From the Priceless Depths

Finding the jewel means coming into contact with the deepest level of our own being…This doesn’t mean just touching that layer, but establishing permanent contact and living out of the depths of that experience.
Sangharakshita – The Jewel in the Lotus

In the White Lotus Sutra parable ‘The Drunkard and the Jewel’, a man discovers that, without realising it, he had possessed a priceless jewel for many years. Having lived in poverty he woke up to his true nature: ‘bright, shining, brilliant’. This was an overwhelming spiritual experience, a shock, an experience of vision. This vision is available to us all; if we experience ourselves at our deepest level, this is what we will find.

However, finding the jewel isn’t easy. It can be covered by so many difficulties and delusions. This is where the great task of transformation comes in. How can we transform every aspect of our lives to enable our deepest, jewel-like nature to shine forth, both individually and collectively?
On this weekend retreat, we’ll be exploring the dazzling experience of vision and the subsequent unfoldment of our being. We will meditate together, listen to talks on the theme, reflect together, and connect in friendship.

Coming on retreat

Coming on a retreat at Padmaloka is a step into another way of being, where we temporarily take up a way of life that is more supportive of Buddhist Practice. We go forth from our ordinary circumstances, our comforts and distractions so that we can discern and move towards our ideals and help others to do so as well.

When booking a retreat at Padmaloka it is important to get a sense of how you will be living here - what our customs, etiquettes and requirements for being on retreat are.
