Spiritual Friendship

The retreat is currently full, the ordination team are working to increase the capacity of this retreat.

Email info@padmaloka.org.uk to be put on the waiting list.

The Buddha described spiritual friendship (kalyana mitrata) as ‘the whole of the spiritual life’. It is with this vision in mind that Bhante founded the Triratna Buddhist Order as a network of spiritual friendship. At the time of ordination, one decisively commits to help create and actively participate in this network of spiritual friendship. It is therefore vital that we study and reflect on this great theme so that we can truly understand its significance in what we’ve said we want to commit to.

As well as studying Bhante’s teaching on spiritual friendship, we will explore and discuss the impact it has had on our own lives.

In addition to Essenstial Sangharakshita the study will also include the lecture Fidelity

Please arrive with a copy of both documents and having read them

Coming on retreat

Coming on a retreat at Padmaloka is a step into another way of being, where we temporarily take up a way of life that is more supportive of Buddhist Practice. We go forth from our ordinary circumstances, our comforts and distractions so that we can discern and move towards our ideals and help others to do so as well. When booking a retreat at Padmaloka it is important to get a sense of how you will be living here - what our customs, etiquettes and requirements for being on retreat are.
