Milarepa, the Tibetan yogi, composed great songs of awakening. 'The Tale of Red Rock Jewel Valley' recounts an episode where, as a solitary mountain ascetic, Milarepa meets the depths of his own mind through reflections on impermanence, visions of his guru and encounters with demons. On this retreat we will explore this tale through study, meditation, ritual and discussion. We will immerse ourselves imaginatively in the world of the Himalayas with its yogis, caves, gurus, demons and spirits, exploring such themes as loneliness in the spiritual community, friendship and competitiveness, fear and overcoming ego-clinging.
