Men’s Open Retreat: Mysteries and Magnitudes

What do we discover when we go beyond the self?

Following directly on from the Great Gathering, this retreat gives us a chance to deepen the momentum from the weekend and delve further into the mysteries and magnitudes which lie beyond selfhood. In Sangharakshita's poem 'Above Me Broods...', he reflects on the importance of unifying our heights and depths. Through meditation, ritual, discussion and periods of silence we will step into a new world, a world of mysteries and magnitudes that are potentialities within us all.

Come to the Men's 5-Day Open Retreat, or immerse yourself fully by combining it with the Great Gathering to create a full 7-day retreat.

Above me broods

Above me broods
A world of mysteries and magnitudes.
I see, I hear,
More than what strikes the eye or meets the ear.

Within me sleep
Potencies deep, unfathomably deep,
Which, when awake,
The bonds of life, death, time and space will break.

Infinity
Above me like the blue sky do I see.
Below, in me,
Lies the reflection of infinity.

Coming on retreat

Coming on a retreat at Padmaloka is a step into another way of being, where we temporarily take up a way of life that is more supportive of Buddhist Practice. We go forth from our ordinary circumstances, our comforts and distractions so that we can discern and move towards our ideals and help others to do so as well. When booking a retreat at Padmaloka it is important to get a sense of how you will be living here - what our customs, etiquettes and requirements for being on retreat are.
